Thank you for your support of the Hand Up for Hillcrest Capital Campaign, benefiting Hillcrest Transitional Housing of Kansas. Your generous gift will help us to reach our goal of raising $750,000 to assist Hillcrest in providing an expansion of services in Kansas, including:
• A new, 12,000 sq. ft. building at Quivira Square Center to house a Hillcrest Transitional Housing of Kansas Thrift Store. The store will help us cloth and provide household items for more than 200 Hillcrest residents a year. In addition, the store will provide affordable shopping opportunities to the underserved communities within Johnson County. The store will feature clothing departments, household items, furniture, and an online eBay store. Demolition work will begin in December and renovation work will begin in January. Doors are expected to open in May of 2017
• The purchase and renovation of a four-plex that will enable us to expand our youth program – helping those ages 16 to 20. The four new units will be set aside specifically for homeless youth in Johnson County. The units are in need of a complete overhaul, ripping up flooring, installing water heaters, heating and cooling systems, and turning a basement into additional living areas for onsite resident managers, and much more.
• Transitioning costs. For each family or youth we house to transition into self-sufficiency, it costs Hillcrest approximately $5,000. As the number of units to maintain and the number of households we serve grows, so will our operating costs.
